Korben Dallas/Leeloo update, and other news

Aug 14 2007 by Frank Sinatra

I am happy to say that our planet earth is getting there. Alternative fuel research, global awareness and general political correctness has slowly but surely promoted the term "green". This is a good thing because as we know from the future space documentary called The Fifth Element then they use the term Super Green. The intellectually giftet that I know reads these boards will realise that we only need to add the term super to the current green wave, and voila - we have entered the space age.

Somewhat less important than the cosmic all, is the fact that this is also a guild website so a bit of guild news are in order.

New site!?!

Khael has managed to redesign the site to 21st century technology. The major differences is the backend which gives members very accesible options to upload pictures, movies, shoutboxes and file sharing. Big ups to Khael for the major work invested in this.

According to the rumormill the downsides of this new site is unfortunately that Sigil released Vanguard early in hopes of beating the major competetion our new site would be to them. Secondarily Darkfall have sent all their developers on forced vacation, so that they may come back to work after the launch of this site and learn a bit about our functionality before they wanna send a million dollar game to the streets only to find it obselete due to our advanced technology.

Of course its only rumors, but where there is smoke - there is a fire. And now to our old valued member W.C. fields who once claimed:

The rumors of my death is greatly exaggerated

just as we thought Wow was taking its final breath, it was also clear that nobody does it better. Vanguard came out, and we had a large amount of members going there. It was close to a perfect game in many ways. It had a FFA server, there was moneyloot for pvp killing (no item loot unfortunately). Graphics were nice, and it was new and fun.

Downsides were the fact that the grapichs engine was made by people from another planet, and even with top rigs it lagged and a lot of it seemed harddisk related of all things... bugs were also in abundance, and the game was simply not finished.

Then sigil gave up, sold to sony and the rest is history. We quit Vanguard after a few months, most went back to wow and the rest went back to idle status.

Back to WoW

Wow is again back on track with typically 20-30+ members online in the evenings. Raidwise we are not that far, not due to lack of gear or bad players but simply because its really hard to get people to join a pve raid in a guild like SUN.

Karazan is farmed, and gruul likewise when we can get 25 ppl to join. Next is SSC, but time will tell how much success we will have there since 25 ppl is a lot for us right now. When the next 10 man instance comes its quite certain that we will have faster progression there :).

Battlegrounds is now simply honor farming, and mostly afk or semiafk. Exceptionally lame model for pvp, and especially the big bg called Alterac valley shows its face when all players (40vs40) all tries to avoind fighting each other to maximise their honor gain (and thereby epic gear).

But the arenas are there, and they are for most members the sole reason to play. gear and setups do mean a lot, but for most its simply fun to fight even if they dont have the right gear or setup. Highest ranked SUN team is Team Vendetta who is currently #4 on the server. The team consist of: Colorman, Prymus, Vidura (Wrain), Lindt (tandoli), Palatron (Grounch) and Qrazy. Good job guys - and keep it up!!!

Some sort of thanks to Tysken

Tysken arranged a mini meeting in sweden, where Sammy, Daszoeb and me came to visit. It was a weekend of drinking added with a suicide style death rafting event that tysken also arranged. Pictures can be seen soon, but it was really wild and a great experience.

Saturday night we had a big outdoor party where we met a lot of the swedes and it was really really nice. Thanks to tysken for a nice weekend, and we will see you next year :).

Games on the horizon

It doesnt look that great currently. WAR has stated that they wont have pvp, which makes it a no-go for us, Age of Conan has pushed their release back to march 2008. Darkfall however might launch now that they have seen our site, but odds are that after seeing this they will have to reprogram the entire engine. Last thing I heard is that they will wait until they can license John Carmacks tech 5 engine.

Lots of shitty games coming out, and in general the existence of pvp oriented guilds are challenged by quite a lot. it might be the realistic future would be some sort of rts game in a consistent world - except of course that those games dont exist either at this point.

Working on the future

lack of pvp games have long term challenges, several small levelling bots have seen the light in 2007, and Niller just took action and got married now that no preferred games are out. Congratulations to you all. So until a pvp game comes out, you can all spend some time getting to know our new backend for the site.
