News from Teh Council

Tuesday 22/1 we had a Council meeting where the current affairs and future plans were discussed. This is a recap of what we discussed, please check the private boards since we need member feedback on many of the topics.

Status

Most of our members have had a minor crisis in the game, and for most this has happened to them during December.

We have had some members who stopped playing, some who have changed guilds, and some who have taken a break.Even though we feel it was a wrong decision to try another guild, we could all understand the motives of wanting to know if the game had more to offer. Many who have taken breaks are coming back - and the December problems have really tightened up the guild.

We are very happy with the member base we have now. Many members are doing an outstanding job for the guild, and we actually think we are doing well again. We must accept that for now the endgame is mostly a game of rps, because endless keeptaking has no point currently. We do have some ideas for events that might spice it up once in a while.

Recruiting

At the last meeting we changed to the 4 sponsor rule for recruits to get into SUN. The reason behind this was that we could see a massive influx of new member with the old system, which was not what we wanted. The 4 sponsors also had a flipside because it was virtually impossible to join SUN unless you had a lot of friends in the guild who had free vouches.

Effective today we are changing this back to needing only 2 sponsors, but now with a one month recruit time. Khael is on vacation so it cannot be changed anytime soon on the recruit section of the webpage. We decided that we wanted to change this immediately so the recruit time will be tracked manually for now.

Please remember that normal rules still apply, you still need to have the recruit send in an email with his reasons for joining, including his sponsors. Travis is in charge of the practical stuff about recruiting, and his acceptance is needed in order to join a new recruit.

Memberlist

We talked a lot about how to arrange our member page so it reflected who played what games, etc. Basically there needs some minor code tweaking, and big cleaning on the DAoC member page.

Council

Not all from the Council plays that much, and we were talking about having the Council reflect who is playing.

There are two considerations to take here. One is about who should enter the Council to replace inactive members, and would they want to at all.

The other is should anyone step down, or should we open up the Council for more people.The end solution will problably be a bit of both.

First the DAoC status for the current Council members:

Frank, Plays.
Travis, Plays.
Tubb(y)(ie), Plays.
Azalar, Plays.

Valena, has had a lot of rl work, this should be lessened now and we should see more to him/her.

Zargar, currently doesnt really play due to boredom. He has played the game for more than a year now, and needed a break. In the next month he will decide if he is going to be very active again - if not he will step down from his place in the Council.

Simkin and Cassie has problems because they live together but only have one PC. They will get an additional pc in the next 10 days, and we can expect seeing them play again. However if they get the pc and after a bit realize that they aren't going to play much, they will also step down from the Council. This is probably not going to happen though, since they look forward to getting back into the game.

Cicero, just finished his exams yesterday, and the next month will show if he is going to spend his new found spare time in Camelot.

On one hand we dont have any quitting, but on the other we had to somehow decide if we should change something.

Because of this we are going to give this one month, and those who are pretty inactive will be stepping down in one month unless they get back into the game.

New Council members

This is the next part. We could come up with several who would fit nicely into the Council. However, last time we decided on Azalar as Council and someone in the guild thought it was unfair that we, the Council, had taken that decision.

To make it a bit more open we are asking current members to write an email to guildofsun@hotmail.com if they feel they would be right for the job, or if there is somone in the guild they think would fit well (please give some reasons).

Rewarding members

We talked alot back and forth about how we could reward or somehow show members that we think they are doing a great job for the guild.

The problem is how to do this, because if you choose one for something, you also get 20 people who think it's unfair it wasn't them, etc.We talked about making a "member of the month" thing, where the member who had done most for the guild would be choosen and praised in some way. Examples might be having his DAoC picture on this screen with a text about his massive work for SUN.

We need your ideas how to make some kind of reward or acknowledgement for individuals' spectacular work for SUN.

Events

Many members have asked for events, but everyone who has tried arranging any has been disappointed in the very low turnout to these. We often feel that those who complain about something, won't even attend when we then arrange it for them. We are trying to rethink how and what events we will make - and hopefully make this work a bit better.

Elvis will be holding a movie night kinda soon.
We are talking about making a SUN camp at Roskilde Festivallen this summer. We talked about making the SUN emblem be our banner for the camp. Azalar would like us all to come in full armor and swords - but time will tell. Our supplier of questionable substances will of course be Jha Maicaman :)
