Old men throwing rocks

2006-09-07 by Frank Sinatra

Ok here we go, this will be a long one.

Thanks frenchie

First of all a big thanks to KTV for hosting this summers gathering. Modern decadence at its best, when you have a nice pool while living 100 meters from the ocean. Really nice to meet people there, and even the cat gave me a farewell I wont forget anytime soon (a 7cm bloody scratch right next to my eye while sleeping) ;).

However the topic of this post is gaming and SUN. Yes, SUN is a pvp guild. What we want is a game without safe zones and full loot. It is undebatable. Darkfall is what we are hoping for, and I am certain that this goes for all of us. So in case anyone misunderstands what I am gonna write they can rest assured that the second Darkfall is released we will be there.

But before that time comes there are options. Ppl are kinda split, which is ok. Some plays EVE and have fun, some plays Dota and have fun, some play WOW and have fun and some are going full circle revisiting old pvp games and find fun in that.

Grumpy old men

That is all fine but what is not so fine is the fact the every faction spends a lot of time bashing each other for their choice. Basically it looks like a bunch of old men sitting on a bench feeding pigeons, throwing rocks at each other (Walter Matthau ftw).

Everyone is upset about not having a true pvp game but I dont think ppl stop to think that it goes for all of us.

And now to World of Warcraft

Currently a lot of dedicated ppl are spending a lot of time figuring out if the future SUN server will continue to be Twisting Nether or if its gonna be another one with a bit more world pvp.

When this is done it will be announced on the WOW forum, and we will all move.

It is really easy to sit on the old bench and throw rocks, and blaming the pve importance of being successful in pvp in WOW. A lot likes to argue that the top guilds are extreme carebears and pve guilds. And using that argument we sit back accepting that we are not the best.

Some mechanics have made this a reasonable choice until now. 40 man instances isnt really our cup of tea since it forces mass recruiting and the battleground mechanics are idiotic at best in terms of ranking, since time spend is more important that winning.

WOW expansion

With the expansion two very good things for us will happen. First of all no more 40 man instances, everyone has enjoyed doing smaller instances in early WOW, but in the end you had the equip and also knew that you HAD to make lots of 40 man raids in order to get the stuff. 40 man raids are more a running machine than having fun in a coordinated effort to achieve something.

And then we have the arenas. Fixed fights with a real rating system, if you win you gain rating if you loose a fight you loose rating.

This means that skill matters more than time spend, and we are finally gonna have a real way to compete.

We have a shitload of skilled players, but we are not 16 year olds going to school. We have jobs, many have kids and most simply cant play 14 hours a day anymore.

Arena teams and raiding

We want to make SUN teams that aim for the top ten spots in the new arena system - it's as simple as that.

For a long time ppl have argued in many ways that we could own if we wanted, "but we dont want to". This is the way loosers excuse themselves... and while there will still be a place for the casuals in WOW, we will also try to make a situation where those who will take part in trying to show what SUN can really do.

And no this is not about extreme methods, we will arrange 3 raids a week (in the 25 man instas) and those who wanna be part of this has to have a 2 raid a week average.

Everyone can do 2 raids a week, and most can do the 3. due to the 5 man instas there are plenty of options for ppls to do more, but we wont preassure ppl for more than the 3 nights (2 average).

People who wish to be part of the "primary raiding group" also need to be prepared which means that you have read up on the encounters, bringing buffs/pots if necessary and joins the raid on time.Ppl who go for the arenas and accepting the raid attendance, and who reads up on the encounters and come prepared will have first rights to the raids.

We are going to need many arena teams if the reviews are correct, and I beleive that the smaller instances will be fun for ppl and that the arenas will motivate our many competition oriented players (active as well as inactive).

Remember that current gear doesnt matter in this, because the whole game will change when the expansion comes itemvise.

Everyone is free to stay on their bench, but I hope many will grab their viagra and get up and join the crusade for Sun domination in the upcoming arena Ladders.

There is fun to be found in WOW, especially when the expansion comes. There is a more socialising there is real competition so lets go and do it.

It's time to put our money where our mouths are, and we might fail and our top team will be number 2750 on the ladder, but i would much rather try and fail than to sit on the bench saying "i could do that if i wanted".

So boiled down

Could you find fun in 5 and 25 SUN groups doing instances? Could you find fun in a ladder based arena system? Can you join for 2-3 raids a week for gearing up? Or do you see yourself helping out the arena teams in any way?

If that's a yes, then join us and do your part to show all the fucking carebears what SUN can do.

P.S. For those not on TN, DO NOT move your characters before the server is chosen and all interested please follow the wow forum.
